Nearly two months ago, on May 12th, a 7.9 magnitude earthquake hit China, killing almost 69,000 people. The Red Cross Society of China, coordinating some of the international aid efforts, encouraged financial donations due to the difficulty of supplying aid to every survivor in need.
In an effort to answer this tremendous need for support, Cirque de Chine held a special charity performance on June 28, 2008 in order to raise funds for the victims of the Sichuan earthquake. This event, held at the Smoky Mountain Palace Theatre in Sevierville, Tennessee, was a huge success, attracting 655 guests and raising $6550. Spectators were able to watch the show for a special discounted rate (at $10 per ticket as opposed to the regular adult price of $29.95), and all of the ticket profits will be donated to the Red Cross in China.
In addition, a donation box was set up in the lobby for anyone who wished to further support the cause, and a very generous $208 was collected at the conclusion of the event. Cirque de Chine is quite pleased with the outcome of the occasion and would like to extend a thank you to all who were involved in the charity effort.
